Ideas in Concrete

We make a wide variety of furniture using concrete as a base in conjunction with other materials, including:

  • Metals, such as steel, aluminium, copper etc;
  • Woods, including Pine, Ash, Oak, Iroko etc;
  • Plastics, including CFRP, GFRP, polycarbonate, etc;

Due to the discrete nature of the concrete constituents, almost an infinite number of unique combinations can be created. For example:

  • Fine aggregates:

Can be soft sand, sharp sand, you can choose from an array of coloured sands, including: red, blue green, white, black etc.

  • Coarse aggregates:

There is the choice of material, including granite, basalt, quartz, driveway gravel, coloured glass etc. Granite, for instance, comes in many different colours i.e.: red, green, blue, yellow. The size can be varied from small (less than 10mm), medium (between 10 and 20mm), large (greater than 20mm). Or any combination.

  • Dyes:

All the same coloured dyes that can be used in mortar can also be applied to concrete to enhance the colours of the chosen aggregates.

  • Surface finish:

The surface can sealed and polished to a glass like sheen, or can be ground back to reveal the aggregates in the concrete and then can be polished and sealed.

  • Shape:

Because concrete changes state from liquid to solid during the curing process, almost any shape can be produced with it. Or it can be cast round anything. For instance, casting paving slab patterns into the surface, or leaf imprints.
